Short Explanation

I decided on whim to shut down the server for a little bit, because I will not be around to manage it. Usually its not a problem but the computer is old and the fans are starting to act strange. What with our towns planned power outages, I found this to be the best decision. Back soon.

Minecraft Server Down

The Minecraft server is going down for a little bit, use has been particularly low, and I would like to manage a few things on it. Sorry about it going down. That is the nature of a free server ran from a guys basement I am afraid.
Only for a little while be patient.

Balls

Well Negaunee power likes to pick some great times to cut out, so now we have a server error I need to fix sometime before the server can go live, I have no homework this weekend so I should have some time. Anyway no server for a bit.

Hello Everybody!

veiledAutonym here, to shit more words all over this blog.

I'm the one who's been updating the Tramway so far on the server. We've successfully gotten the tram to a complete circuit! I'm using a cropped down version of the overmap mike provided earlier as a tool to show what I'm planning for further development of the tram into more than just one big circle, but a full system of lines. Here we go:

In red are the current bits of tram that exist, though some portions off the main loop are missing or incomplete when it comes to rails. The diagonal portions are a bit of an experiment: we can't put boosters on them, but your minecarts actually travel faster diagonally than they do straight (8 m/s on straightaways, 11.313 m/s diagonally). However, many places already have straight rails, and when building new rails straight tracks are easier to plan and more efficient in terms of iron and cobble used for a given distance. I plan on going back through older portions of the track and "curving" the corners, cutting them with a short bit of 45 degree track. But that's for later. Right now there are three main tram projects I'd like to get done.

1. The Gopher Express
This will be a bidirectional line, going straight from the "Jason's lava world" stop, and heading out to gopher's Penis Compensator Castle. The planned route is the lime green bits in the bottom right, though the ending at the castle is not yet determined because Gopher is going to decide where the tram should go to get there.

2. Clay beach -to- Tyler's city thing -to- The unnamed random corner of the tram
This is the big loop on th eleft hand side of the map, again in lime green. I hope to see some more stuff out of this area, and a more direct access route might help with that.

3. "The Big Loop"
This is the line that goes up through castle sandrock, and is headign for EternalLostBoy's and ArmlessDan's Coopertive Hippie Commune homestead. I plan on it going very far, up and around The hills there and far north, swinging around a good portion of the map. Here's a Preview of what I'm thinking so far (This is far off in the future though, so this rough draft will certainly change)
above: Crappy attempt at planning the future. Pretty much useless.

1.8 Official

I have updated the server to 1.8 official, if you are using the prerelease or not, minecraft will still autoupdate to the new version automatically.
Enjoy

Back to old version

Rolled back to the original map and official version. So theres that.

Minecrat 1.8 Prerelease bugs

The 1.8 prerelease is sure acting like a prerelease of a beta version would act. It likes to crash alot, especially when Travis plays, who knows maybe hes cursed. Anywho, the actual release (with rumored to be less bugs) is supposed to be on its way very soon. In fact it was supposed to be out today, the version we are currently playing (once again rumored) is supposed to be the version shown at PAX.
Tomorrow, regardless of official update or not, I am going to put up the old map, in the last official version of minecraft, which is 1.7 something or other. This is mostly due to stability and that when I put a copy of the old map on the prerelease it got really wiggy and buggy.
After that I will update the server as usual when new official versions are released.
This was a fun and interesting detour though, but I guess tomorrow its back to business.

Minecraft 1.8 Pre-Release

Minecraft 1.8 has been semiofficially been pre-released.

You can download the .jar here
Put that .jar in the .Minecraft/bin folder
Probably would be a good idea to back up the original first.

I am going to attempt to update the server to the "pre-release" version. But to prevent errors that may occur in not using an "official" version I am saving the originals to a separate place as a back-up.

Just tried it, the old map was kind of buggy, and I figure since its a limited time thing and we are trying a "test" version, we will use a new World for a few days for fun. Just a quick vacation from our normal world guys. Don't stress.

New Village

So I realized we haven't had a group project in a while. So I am starting a new one today. A new village project. Portals to the Nether work very strange right now, but we can enter and exit regularly. I have built a bridge and pathway from Travis' well built entrance shack to a nice open and exposed location for building our next group village.
Beware this project is only for the manliest of men. Men who love to be furious as they build their houses, and do not mind 24/7 explosion dodging action.
Remember the following
Ghast's will not attack unless they have line of sight.
Ghast's sight is limited to any solid object including glass.
The following blocks are resistant to blasts:
Brick
Cobble Stone
Stone
Diamond Blocks
Gold Blocks
Iron Blocks
Also variations of stone and cobble like stairs also share the same blast resistance.

Wizards Curse should be halted

There should be no more creeping cold. But areas that have been infected may continue to be a cold biome. Some areas will revert if you remove the snow.

What the crap

Creeping Cold

I have decided to do what I could to stave off the wizard's curse that has afflicted our land recently. It has been dubbed the creeping cold. It can not be told whether anything I did has helped cure the already afflicted lands, but with some hope I may have possibly prevented the spread of our ever growing cold biome. Let me know.

Power Outage

The power went out last night, and as a result did some damage to the minecraft map. I fixed it, but do not be surprised if it has some missing information from the last playtime.
Besides that, here's a new map.

Quick Post

Im updating drivers on the server, found some missing ones that may help with stability. As a result as of this message and probably 30 to  45 minutes from posting the computer will be tied up and the server down.

You say hello, I say 'why is that bit of gravel on top of your house?'

Hello to all the members of SNG(goodgodthisnameistoolong)X2GTHDR! This is ShiningRayde, or Tyler to those who know me, and as mentioned previously, I've been appointed Land Manager. I did this mainly through bribery, but also due to my prodigious skills in design and construction. Or, you know, half-assed talent.

My job, as outlined by Roboto, is primarily to sniff out the corruption of the poorly designed, and either discuss with the owner ways to improve upon the structure - either in aesthetics or simple theme - or to recommend deletion.

Don't mention it, hold your applause.

However, first, I would like to draw your attention to a video that I've enjoyed, that should help some of you who don't know what to do to make things pretty, get your craft-legs on.

X's Adventures in Minecraft: A little about Design

And, to follow that up, three wonderfully done videos, time compressions of impressive projects. They average about 6-10 minutes in length, and are just incredible. Big props to Firedragon and BruteAllMighty (God, I hope I got the names right. You guys talk fast D:)
Episode 1: Asian themed Temple and Zen Garden
Episode 2: Valley of Heroes
Episode 3: City of Arches, Roman/Greek Theme

With these videos combined, you should start to have some crazy ideas in your head, like showing off awesome buildings in awesome places. And that's good! Get out there, and show off something you've learned. Make a new house somewhere, and be proud of it.

And I'll come along, declare it an eyesore, and burn it all to the ground.

Again, don't mention it.

ShiningRayde
Land Manager

(ShiningRayde's position does not specifically mention burning things to the ground. Any threats of burnings should not be taken seriously and are probably because you're bad at taking sarcasm. Please see your doctor immediately for a pill for the massive amounts of butthurt you're going through.)

New Author

We have ShiningRayde as a coauthor on this blog now. He is taking on the specific title of Land Manager. We still have some problems going on with non-themed building going on in the Forest Town.
What this means is that he will be in charge of making sure people do not cause massive land scarring, and do not build giant phallus objects across the world. He will also be in charge of deciding what stays and goes in community areas, with my blessing.
He is also a great builder, and is a great resource for helping to decide what to build in community areas, and has a lot of great ideas. So feel free to ask him some questions.

1.21 Giggawatts

Lightning storm a brewing, and one of the many quirks of running a server out of my basement means I shut it down during storms for quite a few reasons. The most important being to prevent corrupted data from a power outage.

Dun goofed

I turned the server off from a location where it could not be accessed. Its back up now.

Rules Version One

First off a video.

Secondly

Giant letters ffffffffffffffffffffffffff

these used to be such nice beaches

This beach has also been pot hole raped. :(
I cry sad indian tears for our once beautiful land.

Rules:
1. Do not build on or closely around another persons structure. Ask permission from a person first.
2. Community areas are not playgrounds, build something with the theme and do not leave it half finished. Building a giant half finished structure that is not in theme with that community is a giant middle finger to those who like to really build there.
3. Giant letters and pixel art are frowned upon but admittedly do have their places. Ask first please. Sometimes having a giant Donkey Kong next to a beautiful castle is a little jarring.
4. Do not steal.
5. Do not kill.
6. Do not light things on fire.
7. Do not be pants-on-head retarded, if something looks like shit, clean it up. If an onslaught of creepers blew the front off a friends house cause you were dicking around it clean it up.
8. Glass and sand make awesome materials but try not to rape every beach in existence. There are plenty of places to get sand in the millions of deserts in areas no one occupies or even has a view of.
9. Water currents can be tricky messes and people do like to sail. Try not to mess them up. I can post a tutorial on how to fix them in the future if you are interested.
(will probably edit this later with more if I think of any)

There, its pretty simple. As admin (guy with a spare desktop computer in his basement) I reserve the right to ban anyone for any reason. Try to adhere to these rules guys.

If you need to get a hold of me leave an email at EternalLostBoy@gmail.com and I will take a look at it as soon as possible.

Holy crap

Logged on, saw this and thought to myself wow that is pretty awesome! The interior was amazing! I cant imagine how long this took! Very awesome job guys!

This land bridge here with the torches, is there anyway I can get that thing opened up. There are some people who sail in and out of the bay and the land bridge there is in the way. Unless there is some plan for it?

Dont mess with other people's buildings

As the title suggests. Do not mess with other peoples buildings. All the items in my house in the desert fortress are gone as well as the roof has been screwed with. Do not let this happen again, I and other people have no patience for this.

Blue Screen

I went on a trip to ACen this weekend, and it was great, but that it not what this is about. Its really hard to for me to check up on the server without access to a reliable internet connection, or if the server is not working properly. The Minecraft server has gone as far as I can tell a little while on a blue screen of death. It had to stay that way because I could not physically access it at the time. Its up again now, and have already found a solution to the problem.

Floating Delay

Like the PSN servers I just can't seem to get floating islands to work. So we are going to start a forest village. Right off the Clay Beach Tramway Station is a nice forest with a mountain just off to the distance. Lets try a replanting effort as we go along foresting. Lets also try to go and build a community on this nice little island.
Facing west off the Clay Beach Tramway

Get your wood

Take the whole trees worth

Replace the sapling

Build into nature, except make your place better looking than mine.

New Project

I forgot to turn saving on after making a map earlier and lost some data that me and Akimi worked, I apologize to for the mistake.
Server is down for a bit while I muscle in some new content.

MAP I TELL YOU!

Saturday, April 30, 2011

update on things.

I will get around to adding in the floating islands later, probably today. I have started work on the public transportation for this map. If you want a train station by your place, please request it. Most people are not interested in transportation around their house. I have it going from my place which I'm converting one floor into a hotel for guests, and have had the rails successfully reach the underwater city. I built a (temporary) train station into the light house which is there for ease and convenience. It was literally the same height as my raised rail system. I will see if Mimouroto minds having it on the side when I see him online. Its not the most flattering addition so I am guessing he would like it moved.
Also bugs, and crashing. More than the usual.
I took some screen shots of squid out on his daily flight.
Rising out of the sea

He comes and swoops around, taunting me with his ability of flight.

See ya bitches! I AM FREE!

Underwater Adventure

I got the basic place up for the underwater civilization. Its labeled on the map in a previous entry on this blog. I made a hub, and tunnel to my house. Please feel free to use the box of supplies in the hub that should have dirt and glass to make any additions you would like. My place is in the upper right hand corner from walking in.

Just as a reminder

At times I do have thunder storms. And seeing as how I run this server out of my cave, I do occasionally turn off and unplug my computer when there is a thunder storm. Just a warning to those in the future who play Minecraft when my house is under siege from electricity falling from the sky.

Tutorial

Some people are a little confused on how to build underwater. So here goes a tutorial. You only really need dirt and whatever material you want to frame your underwater house with, I used glass.
First things first you need to dig down and make a tunnel to the open water. Count from the surface how deep down you plan on having your under water tunnel and dig that many squares down.

Carve everything you can out of the way as you carve your way to sea.

This is what the tunnel to the sea looks like from the surface.

Alright, your tunnel has reached open water. Head out and go for a swim and find the hole you made from underwater. Seal it up and mark it so you know where it is.

Under water pictures did not turn out, so I recreating the tunnel on the surface so we can see. Start from where you sealed up your tunnel, and start placing dirt in the same space your tunnel has. in my case my tunnel was 4x4, so I continued placing 4x4 dirt from where I marked the tunnel.
Then you start putting a material around as a casing. In my case I used glass, so I can have the underwater tube look.
I finished casing my tunnel, now I added a little home on the end. I made this giant block of dirt to start framing the glass around.
All the glass is on, time to go back to the entrance of the tunnel and start digging.
I started digging out all the dirt I placed earlier, now instead of water in the tunnel you should be seeing nothing but air and glass.

Here is the real underwater tunnel I made.

If you leave just one pocket of water when placing the dirt you will run into a water pocket like this one when digging. Just throw some dirt on it and continue digging.

Reached my house I made underwater.

And here is the house when it was cleared of dirt.

Labeled Map

New community coming up

Im calling Sandrock as finished for right now. I put diamond shovels in the appropriate places for those who contributed. For those who still would like to build there, go right ahead.
The next project I will post later tonight as well as some handy instructions on how to build it. Its going to be under da sea themed. I also plan on posting a version of the map with landmarks labeled so new people can find things easier.
Also the reward for participating in the next project will be a diamond shovel. I hope to see people build some common areas and things that benefit the community that fit the theme. I will post an announcement in the steam group so people can comment and make lists of things they would like to see in the under sea community.

New Project part 2

I have made a common building, add to what you want as you wish. Contributions welcome. Leave comments on the Steam Group's annoucement, so some of us who play in the off hours can coordinate with others.
Also just a tip, listen to the Gerudo Valley music from OOT when building, totally fits the mood. I think the walls need improved, so there is lots of stone laying in a box, and tons of sand for making sand stone.
